Art show= Ilene Segalove

I was intrigued by Ilene Segalove's work. There was a quirkiness to her works of art. From her installations to the videos you can see her development as an artist. She grew up in L.A. and her work reflects that. She had a kind of old Hollywood glam look with some of her photographs.  One of my favorite works was "Close but no Cigar". She reenacted the original image and placed her self in the same scene. This piece was very effective especially placing the images side by side to compare them. I placed my second favorite image bellow. This one was very interesting because she placed a Jackson Pollock painting with in her photograph. The painting is also in color which gives it a higher level of importance in a way. Pollock's paintings are easily recognizable and I think Segalove was using that as inspiration for her work. It is interesting to see the juxtaposition between the color of the painting and the rest of the photograph. The title of the photograph is also intriguing. She refers to the painting as a program that they will be watching. And in a way one can look at Pollock's painting and see something different every time. And the fact that is "Today's Program" means it is universally reaching all people.
