wednesday is free day!!!!

So I have completely fallen in love with print making. Betsabee Romero has truly inspired me. Her work is so eloquently done. By using the tires of cars she carves out a design which becomes her print. The images have been displayed in galleries on scroll like pieces of paper and plastic. This tires were placed in the gallery and museums along side the prints it had made. At one museum she placed sand on the floor and had the tires roll over it to leave a print in the sand.

The use of traditional Mexican iconography is very beautiful. She mixes the different aspects of Mexican culture (the old and new) into one large print. I think it is very innovative to use the rubber of old tires to make the image block from. It has a lot of metaphor behind it. Tires are on cars and they get people from point A to point B. And this print leaves a trace of that journey for others to see. It is really impacting to the viewer to see these large trails of paper depicting the intricate details of the print. I really admire her work.
